She ran...her ipod in her ears....ran because it dulled out the pain...ran because it made sense....
She paused to catch her breath. Her knees where aching...It was true what they said-lack of physical activity had definitely reduced her stamina. There was a time when she was 10 when she could run a whole 20 min without pausing...but that was during games she thought...oh what wonderful games....hide and seek, relay, catch-catch...memories of warm summer evenings came flooding back to her, of noises on the playground, of the sweet scent of rose bush in the park, giggles and shouts of happiness of the teams who won the games...she sighed...she had long realised that going down memory lane was not for her...old memories slowly linked to new ones...and those were the ones she was keen to block out...
She knew pausing meant memories...so she started running again..ignoring the dull ache in her sides...
She ran past the harbour...ran past the people gawking at her sitting on benches...ran past the apartment complexes..ran past the starbucks and the cart selling road side food....until she reached the knife shop
There she paused and eyed all the knives in the window...and there it was as she saw it everyday...the knife with the dark wooden handle, gleaming as the faint rays of the evening sun fell on it...all it took would be $5 and a couple of cuts with the sharp blade to end all the miseries...she shook her head to clear herself of these thoughts....what purpose would that serve...and she set of again
She ran all the way back to her front door...when she reached she was pausing and her breath came out in short gasps.... she entered the house using her key and there HE was sitting on the couch, staring at the idiot box as usual...she ignored him and went straight to the kitchen...and had just began pouring herself a glass of water when she heard HIS voice call out to her and ask her to fetch some food from the kitchen...and there she saw it suddenly...sitting innocently in the sink...gleaming in the kitchen light...its edge almost as sharp as the one she had seen in the shopwindow....
She picked it up...thinking all the while how far she could run......
